10 Best Twitter Accounts To Learn English

I don’t spend much time on X, but if you do, and you’re looking for accounts for learning English, you’re in the right place.

After digging around and filtering, I came up with these 10 accounts. Rather than having more categories like I did with Instagram, I decided on only two: grammar and mixed content.

Talking about filtering, my criteria are these, and they have to match at least two of them.

  • Have images

I don’t want it to have all text. Having visuals helps with memorization.

  • Have exercises

I believe this activity can help strengthen learners’ understanding further.

  • Provide explanations

When giving answers, especially regarding quizzes, an explanation is a must. Not all of us are advanced learners.

  • Entertaining

Diversifying the tweet format, even though they are quizzes, is fun. Don’t you want your learning to be enjoyable?

Without further ado, let’s get started! Just know the lists are in no particular order.

Grammar (Beginner-friendly)

Enliven English

The concept is to teach grammar in a non-complicated way. One grammar a day. You’ll be presented with the Grammar Quiz For The Day daily in an image format. The answer will be revealed the next day or a few days later, together with the explanation.

English Grammar Quiz

If one question a day isn’t enough for you, you’re in for a treat. This account posts around 6 questions. The first time I found I immediately disliked it because they didn’t tell me the correct answers in the reply.

I figured it out when I clicked on the image. I had to retake the question, and the answer was revealed after. Unfortunately, not all answers will have an explanation.

TED IELTS

As his profile says, one grammar lesson a day. He will reveal the answer the next day with explanations and a few more examples.

I like that David diversifies his posts, and they aren’t all ‘multiple-choice questions’ style.

Mixed Content (Intermediate-friendly)

LoveVocab

Not a beginner? Want to test what you know so far or brush up on your English daily? You’re in for a treat! I love how it’s not specific to one topic but four. Also, the fact that they explain why the other options given are wrong is superb. It’s the opposite of what most people would do.

English Grammar

The name is a bit misleading because the content doesn’t contain grammar at all (maybe there were in the early beginning). They do three posts a day. You’ll see these patterns;

  • Word of the day
  • Idiom of the day
  • Homophones
  • Phrase of the day

I like that they include how to pronounce the word in their Word Of The Day post, which is helpful.

Phrasal Cards

If you read my post on Instagram accounts for learning English, you’ll find this one familiar. That’s because they are the same. The only difference is this is all about Phrasal verbs. They do have one for idiom, too.

Slang Cards

Yes, it’s from the same creator as above. You’ll get a brief explanation and two examples. Unfortunately, they aren’t very active. Also, they don’t include videos here, unlike on Instagram. Despite that, it’s still a great account.

IdiomConnection

I was excited when I read the description, but soon disappointed to see no proverbs. As of recently, all you see is one idiom a day. Sometimes you’ll see the Phrasal Verb Of The Day quiz in a poll format. Usually, the answer will be given two days later.

It’s quite an active account just by seeing how they post every day. If you’re not sick of idioms yet, be sure to follow.

Cambridge Dictionary

This one is the very definition of mixed content. You’ll see word lists, phrases, prepositions, adverbs, the difference between X and so on.

What makes this interesting is that there are a lot of fun exercises in a variety of formats, such as;

  • Fill in the blank
  • Unscramble
  • Multiple-choice question
  • Word association
  • Guess the meaning of an idiom/ find a word to complete an idiom
  • Etc

They often reposted tweets from Angkriz Academy, which means additional useful info and resources.

Evil English

Matthew has been teaching English for the past 12 years. He posts many things, and sometimes he creates a post just to answer questions from his followers or students. A few of his posts are beginner-friendly.

These are some of his contents;

  • Irregular verbs
  • ing adjective endings vs -ed adjective endings
  • Prepositions/ adjectives/ expressions
  • Verbs (phrasal/ action/ etc)
  • Know the difference series
  • Different ways to say X series

That’s it for now! I’ll probably create a part two. Let me know what you think. While you’re at it, share with us your favorite account(s) below.
